This delicious Butter Chicken is rich, creamy, and packed with flavor, made in a slow cooker for your convenience.

- 1 ½ pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon garam masala
- 2 teaspoons curry powder
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
- 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- Fresh chopped cilantro (for garnish)
- Cooked basmati rice or naan, for serving
Instructions
- Prep the base: In the bottom of your slow cooker, add the chopped onions, garlic, and ginger. These form the aromatic foundation of your butter chicken and will slowly release their flavors as they cook.
- Season the chicken: Add your chicken thighs directly on top. Then sprinkle in the garam masala, curry powder, turmeric, cumin, paprika, salt, pepper, and cayenne (if using). Give everything a gentle mix to coat the chicken in the spices.
- Add tomato sauce: Pour the tomato sauce over the chicken. Stir lightly to combine.
- Slow cook to perfection: Cover and cook on LOW for 5–6 hours or on HIGH for 3–4 hours, until the chicken is tender and cooked through.
- Creamy finish: Once cooked, stir in the Greek yogurt, heavy cream, and butter until fully incorporated. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes to warm through and thicken slightly.
- Serve and enjoy: Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve over warm basmati rice or with soft naan.
