Description

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf brioche or challah bread, cubed
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (optional)
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional add-ins: fresh berries, sliced bananas, chopped pecans, mini chocolate chips, orange zest

Instructions

  1. Cube the bread into bite-size pieces and spread them in the dish.
  2. Prepare the custard in a big bowl: combine eggs, milk, cream, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Pour the custard over the bread, then gently press the cubes down.
  4. Cover and chill for at least 4 hours, but overnight is best.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 40 to 50 minutes until puffed and golden.
